The Amarna Letters from Tel el Amarna in Egypt are important in the study of Biblical Archaeology because they refer to events in the middle east going as far back as 1500 years before Yeshua Jesus was born. They refer to the Hebrews, they give evidence of the trustworthiness of the books of Joshua, Judges, Samuel and Kings.

Of particular interest for biblical scholars is the fact that the letters revealed the first mention of a Near Eastern group known as the Habiru (also called “Apiru” and “Hapiru”), whose possible connection with the Hebrews has been much debated.
